Alyk - Final Spins
ALYK is a West Palm Beach solo artist crafting anthemic “Hot Girl Rock” — a fusion of alternative, hard rock, and pop-punk built for the misfits and rule-breakers. Her music makes space for the ones who refuse to be silenced, watered down, or controlled
In just a couple of years, ALYK has gone from local Florida stages to winning Battle of the Bands and earning a main-stage slot on Vans Warped Tour Orlando. She’s built a devoted grassroots fanbase across the state and with headline festival slots now on the horizon, the trajectory is only pointing one direction.
Alyk’s Final Spins starts here
1. What’s the first song you remember hearing — the one that first caught your ear as a kid?
“The first song I remember hearing is You're So Real by Matchbox Twenty LOL. This song came out when I was 2 and I remember my dad getting a kick out of my sister and me head-banging in the car. I just rediscovered this song after decades and it felt like a time machine.”
2. Who was the artist or band that defined your teenage years — the one you were absolutely obsessed with, posters and deep dives included?
Oh boyyyyyy I know this playlist is going to be so random because I truly have listened to every and any genre through the years. I would say TEENAGE years specifically would be Panic! At The Disco. Right around the age my big sis got her license and had to start driving me around, we had Panic on repeat and started attending multiple shows together. For the playlist I'll go with the iconic This Is Gospel.
3. What was the first album you bought with your own money?
“This is where the playlist gets weird LOL because the first album I bought with my money was Speak Now by Taylor Swift HAHA. I was never really a swiftie per say but that album did things to my adolescent brain and I bought it the day of my 10th birthday, put the CD in my computer, downloaded it onto my iPod and listened to nothing else for months. Let's go with Dear John, for obvious reasons.”
4. What’s the song or artist that made you realize music would always be a central part of your life — the turning point that changed how you saw it?
“I think, as a whole, Queen is the band that made me feel something so different than any other music. The first Queen song I discovered was Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Created a tap dance routine for it and forced my friends to watch lmao. Bohemian Rhapsody became one of the first songs I learned on piano and changed my whole outlook on music. Queen felt like freedom, no rules, and ultimate expression of self and because of that I wound up eventually tattooing Freddie Mercury on my leg.”
5. What song or album makes you cry the most or hits the hardest emotionally?
“OMG how are you gonna really ask me that!?? There are literally so many songs that make me cry I have an entire playlist for it. Having a crash out right now trying to choose. If you're FORCING me to choose only one I'll go with Ceilings by Lizzy McAlpine.”
6. What’s a song by an artist you love that deserved to be their biggest hit — the one that’s better than the song everyone knows them for?
"Obsessed by Olivia Rodrigo is underappreciated 100%. This song directly inspired my song, Make A Scene.”
7. What was your first big musical love — the early-era artist or song that shaped you long before your teenage obsessions kicked in?
“Buckcherry :) My dad and I used to go to so many Buckcherry concerts and I was mesmerized by the trash rock environment (sorry mom) and I even went to school with a shirt that said "Crazy Bitch" in third grade LOL and they made me turn it inside out. We can add that song and you can blame it for the way that I am now haha.”
8. Which artist do you think is criminally underrated or doesn’t get the attention they deserve right now?
“I don't know that I would say criminally underrated, however, Shinedown does not get the recognition they deserve. Shinedown has 22 #1 hits... They have the most number one hits in the 40+ year history of the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart YETTTTT not one grammy? Nonsense. Godfathers of the industry with no recognition for the work they've done shaping today's music. Gotta pick MONSTERS.”
9. What song, album, or artist means the most to you — not because it’s your favorite, but because of the memory around it?
"Sorry by Buckcherry. Solely because of the memory. My dad and I used to sing this song together and I think it was an unspoken anthem for our father-daughter bond, communicating through disagreements or issues. There never had to be words, just Sorry playing through the backyard speakers. And every time we saw them play that song live we squeezed eachother a little bit tighter.”
10. What song never fails to give you chills?
"Magnolia by Meadowglade, no comments. You're welcome.
11. What song or album do you relate to most — the one that feels written with you in mind?
"To Be Loved by Adele. This song was written FOR me I swear. It came out at the exact time I needed it. This song explores the excruciating and often necessary sacrifice of leaving a relationship that made you lose yourself. And all I ever wanted, was to be loved.”
12. What song or album could you listen to forever without getting tired of it?
“Whiplash by Architects.”
13. What’s a song or album you wish you could experience again for the first time?
"A Work Of Art by Ice Nine Kills. Terrifier is my favorite horror series so this song changed my brain chemistry. The songs feels like art and they literally just did whatever they wanted and I loved that.”
14. Are you a holiday-music person? If so, what’s your Mount Rushmore of holiday songs?
"I'll Be Home For Christmas Acapella Rascal Flatts cover.”
15. What do you think is objectively the greatest song or album ever made?
“THE greatest song ever made???????????????? Hate this question. I'm gonna go with a song I feel is the greatest song I've heard in years because thinking of ALL TIME will crash me out 100%. Needle eye by Colorblind. Truly one of the best written songs/choruses ever; don't @ me.”
16. We don’t like to be negative, but we all have a song we wish we could erase from history or just hope to never have to hear again— what’s yours?
Baby Shark. No explanation needed.
17. Whose voice hits you so hard it makes you feel like the Tex Avery Wolf — eyes wide, jaw dropped, completely hypnotized, ready to run away with them forever?
Adam Gontier of 3 Days Grace. Riot of course.
18. And finally — what album are you taking to the afterlife?
"Hit Me Hard and Soft by Billie Eilish. UGH I don't wanna pick one can i pick two? okay sure haha. Wildflower and The Greatest. Pick whichever, they both deserve it.
