Tranquilize - EP (2021)

What a way to introduce yourself. Telenova didn’t just release an EP, they arrived with a fully formed sound and vision. Tranquilize establishes their aesthetic immediately, moody, sleek, and immersive from the opening seconds of the title track.

Tranquilize is all atmosphere. The bassline drives with a steady pulse while synths swirl overhead, locking you into a hypnotic state before you’ve had a chance to resist. Lyrically, it leans into surrender, letting the idea of being tranquilized sink in rather than spelling it out. The writing mirrors the music’s pull. It draws you under instead of pushing you forward.

Lost Highway follows seamlessly and brings strong Cannons energy, which is always a plus. The melody is smooth and infectious, but the real depth lives in the layered production and the tension coiled underneath it. The lyrics go darker and more direct, blunt confession, unresolved guilt, a polished surface with something messier beneath it. It lingers.

Blue Valentine is a standout. Acoustic strumming, restrained vocal delivery, genuine warmth. It shows another side of the band without breaking the world they’ve built. The lyrics circle themes of illusion and disappointment without tipping into dramatic confession. It feels more organic than the tracks around it, and that’s exactly the point. Telenova’s strength isn’t just mood or texture. The songwriting holds up on its own.

Bones reminds you why it was the bands first single. The textured percussion gives it a gritty, physical feel, and the chorus hits hard. Lyrically it’s confrontational and self-aware, embracing chaos instead of apologizing for it. That confidence is what gives the song its bite. One of the EP’s most defining moments.

Tranquilize closes with Comedian, and it fits perfectly. Simple, vulnerable, framed as a series of offers rather than demands. It’s the most intimate moment on the record. It doesn’t break the spell. It just leaves you sitting in it, ready to hit play again.

First releases rarely sound this cohesive. Telenova pulls it off without making it look like effort. Tranquilize doesn’t just introduce a band. It sets the bar for everything that comes next.
